I am dedicating this song to Shashi Kapoor, who recently passed away, and to R.K. Studio. Shashi Kapoor acted in the film Awara as a child actor, and then had a glorious career in acting. R.K. Studio just burned down in fire. It was living history of Hindi Cinema. Great films like Mera Naam Joker, Jis Desh Main Ganga Bahti Hai, Shree 420 etc were filmed here. This simple song of film Awara was not only popular in India, it became very popular in many parts of the world, especially in old Soviet Union, where Raj Kapoor was given second best honor to the Prime Minister of India then. He himself sang ‘Awara Hoon’ in open car when hundreds of Russians gathered on the side of the road to see him. Composer duo Shankar-Jaykisan also became internationally famous. This song is composed based on Accordion sound, which is very popular in Russia and Latin countries. In 50’s it also became very popular in India. All instruments can create all kind of emotions, but accordion and saxophone are known as most romantic instruments. I hope you like the accordion I have played on my synthesizer keyboard. |
